Print-Ready File Requirements

Use this guide before submitting a design for professional printing. A print-ready file should be correctly sized, high-resolution, complete, and ready to move into production without rebuilding.

01

Preferred File Type

PDF is the safest format for professional printing.

  • Submit a high-resolution PDF whenever possible.
  • Flatten transparencies and effects before export when your design software allows it.
  • Do not submit screenshots, social-media downloads, or low-resolution preview images as final print files.
02

Correct Finished Size

Your file must match the exact size and format being printed.

  • Set the document to the final printed size before export.
  • If the piece folds, the panel layout must be built for the correct flat sheet size and fold configuration.
  • Do not scale a small design up to a larger print size and expect the same image quality.
03

Bleed & Safe Area

Backgrounds and images that reach the edge need room for trimming.

  • Extend full-bleed backgrounds and images beyond the trim edge.
  • Keep names, dates, logos, faces, and important text safely inside the trim area.
  • Files without enough bleed may show thin white edges after cutting.
04

Image Resolution

Low-resolution images can print soft, pixelated, or blurry.

  • Use the highest-quality original photos available.
  • Avoid screenshots, text-message images, Facebook downloads, and heavily compressed images when possible.
  • Images that look acceptable on a phone can still print poorly at larger sizes.
05

Color & Appearance

Screen colors and printed colors are not identical.

  • Color can shift between phones, monitors, home printers, and professional production equipment.
  • Very dark shadows, oversaturated blues, and intense RGB colors may reproduce differently in print.
  • Serenity may make production adjustments when needed to improve print output, but exact screen-to-print matching is not guaranteed.
06

Fonts & Text

Text should be complete, readable, and locked into the exported file.

  • Proof all spelling, names, dates, scriptures, addresses, and service details before submission.
  • Export in a way that preserves the intended fonts and layout.
  • Tiny text, extremely thin fonts, and low-contrast text may not reproduce clearly.
07

Canva & Photoshop Files

Client-created files still have to meet professional print requirements.

  • Canva designs should be exported at the correct size as a high-quality PDF for print.
  • Photoshop files should be built at the intended print dimensions with sufficient resolution.
  • If the file needs resizing, bleed correction, panel adjustment, margin repair, or export setup, print-prep service may be required.
08

AI-Generated Artwork

AI images often need extra preparation before they are ready for press.

  • AI artwork may contain low-resolution details, distorted text, soft edges, artifacts, or incorrect dimensions.
  • AI-created designs may need rebuilding, resizing, background extension, bleed setup, sharpening, or layout correction.
  • Complex AI file correction may require the AI Print-Ready File Setup service rather than basic print prep.
09

When File Prep Is Required

If the file cannot go directly into production, a setup service must be added.

  • Prep My Design for Print is $50 for standard Canva, Photoshop, and client-created files that need production setup.
  • More extensive AI or reconstruction work is priced separately.
  • Printing begins only after the supplied file passes the print-ready review or required setup work is completed.
10

Common Reasons Files Are Not Print-Ready

These issues usually require correction before production.

  • Wrong page size or incorrect orientation.
  • Missing bleed or important content too close to the trim edge.
  • Low-resolution photos or artwork.
  • Incorrect fold/panel setup.
  • Screenshots or flattened previews instead of final production files.
  • White borders that were not intended.
  • Missing pages, duplicate pages, or incorrect page order.
  • Artwork that becomes blurry or pixelated at final print size.
